Attractions near Northleigh House

From family friendly attractions such as the Milky Way to the National Trust managed Arlington Court, there are a variety of attractions with a 30 minute drive of Northleigh House to keep all the family entertained no matter what the weather. We have listed just a few of the nearby attractions below to give you an idea of things to do when staying at Northleigh House.

Exmoor Zoo

Less than a 15 minute drive from Goodleigh is Exmoor Zoo, a small family run zoo home to a range of animals, some of which are in danger of becoming extinct. Open all year round, this family friendly zoo with its own cafe and outdoor play area is well worth a visit, you will even get the chance to see the Exmoor Beast! Daily talks and animal encounters are held at Exmoor Zoo and are great for getting up close to the animals. 

Arlington Court

Located on the edge of Exmoor is the National Trust managed Arlington Court, a former Chicester house that has beautiful landscaped gardens, a cosy tea room and some excellent walks. It is also home to a carriage museum that has one of the largest collections of carriages on display in the country. Throughout the year, Arlington Court hosts a number of events, including meeting the traditional green Santa throughout December, Easter Egg hunts in April and craft days throughout many school holidays. 

Local gardens

There are many local gardens to discover within a 30-minute drive of Goodleigh, such as Broomhill Sculpture Gardens on the edge of Barnstaple where you will find amazing artwork on display throughout the landscaped gardens. There is also Marwood, a smaller garden more popular with couples looking for a relaxed day out, Castle Hill near Filligh where you can walk through colourful landscaped gardens or enjoy the local woodland walks and finally RHS Rosemoor near Torrington, which is ideal for all the family to spend a day, a popular event here is held during the winter months when all the gardens are lit up at twilight in beautiful colourful lights. 

The Milky Way

Situated near Clovelly is The Milky Way, an all year round award winning attraction with indoor activities, as well as outdoor ones. Spend time watching the kids take on the indoor slides and go carts before heading outdoors to enjoy the roller coasters. Also onsite here is Little Stars, a large indoor soft play area ideal for the little ones to enjoy. 

The Big Sheep

Found just outside Bideford is The Big Sheep, an all weather attraction for all the family to enjoy. This family friendly attraction has everything from tractor rides and animal encounters to a large indoor soft play area and beer tasting. It really is a great place to spend a day with the little ones. Visit during the spring and spend time in the lambing shed as they welcome new lambs into the world, you can even help bottle feed some of the lambs. Daily sheep races are also held here during the summer season. 

Dartington Crystal

Dartington Crystal in Torrington is a wonderful place to visit no matter what the weather. Admire the talented glass blowers hard at work before having a go yourself, you can also try your hand at jewellery making and other crafts, some of which are suitable for youngsters. Complete your visit with a trip to the onsite shop selling a range of glassware made on site. 

Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

At the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park a range of wild animals such as lions, wolves and sea lions live alongside a set of life sized animatronic dinosaurs. Also, onsite is a large indoor soft play area, which is open all year round, a cafe and small train ride, where you may just get wet! A series of talks can also be enjoyed at the park including a comedy display with the sea lions and an informative one featuring birds of prey. 

Watermouth Castle

This Victorian style castle and theme park is a great way of stepping back in time. Wonder through the castle and its dungeons to see some of the nostalgic toys on display before walking over to the outdoor rides area featuring a carousel and water ride. There is also Gnome Land to discover and an indoor water show that is sure to keep the kids entertained.
